ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Vaccines are one of the best interventions developed for eradicating COVID-19. In Albania, COVID-19 vaccination uses different types of vaccines: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, CoronaVac, and Sputnik V. Like any other vaccine, these have side effects too. AIM: This study was carried out to identify the perception of the side effects of vaccines. METHOD(S): A quantitative study using a cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and September 2021 to collect data on the effects of the COVID-19 vaccine among individuals in Shkodra region. Data were collected online through a self-administered survey created on Google Forms which had been randomly delivered to individuals (aged >=18 years) using social media sites (Email and WhatsApp). All data collected were analyzed with Microsoft Office Excel 2010, using the exact Fisher's test and x2 test. RESULT(S): This study included 292 citizens, out of which 200 were female and 92 were male;62% were from urban areas and 38% from rural areas of Shkodra region. The random sample of the citizens who took part in this study is 44.5% (18-30 years old). A massive percentage of the participants, 66.4%, had received the second dose of the vaccine. Our study shows that 55.8% of these citizens have had side effects after the first vaccination dose, and only 43.8% have had side effects after the second dose. About 80.6% of the participants were well informed about the type of vaccine they got. CONCLUSION(S): Side effects from vaccines were reported. Injection site pain and fatigue were the most common first dose side effects (55.8%). The same side effects were reported for the second dose. The side effects were presented during the first 12 h after the vaccination in most cases. Side effects were more prevalent in people >50 years old. Older people have a higher probability to have more side effects from the COVID vaccine. There is no statistically significant relationship between gender and the presence of the side effect from the COVID vaccine. People living in urban areas have a higher probability to have side effect from COVID vaccine comparing with people living in rural areas. People being vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine have a higher probability to admit the presence of side effects.Copyright: © 2022 Zamira Shabani, Arketa Guli, Julian Kraja, Arlinda Ramaj, Nertila Podgorica.

ABSTRACT

This comparative quantitative study aims at investigating whether instructional delivery methods, such as online, hybrid, blended learning and face-to-face delivery methods, had an effect on students' grades when teaching mathematics to English language learners in a higher education Institution in the United Arab Emirates. Final course grades, in GPA format, of 574 students were collected over the course of three academic years. Assumptions of analysis of variance (ANOVA), post hoc tests, effect sizes Cohen's d were examined. The statistically significant difference across four different instructional delivery methods showed effect sizes that grew from medium to large to very large when increasing the amount of online instruction. These findings surpass other studies and suggest a high practical significance. The consequences of COVID19 on instructional delivery methods had a favourable effect on students' grades. Higher education institutions in the UAE may use these findings for future planning, even beyond the pandemic. Recommendations are made for further research to include more variables and other disciplines.

ABSTRACT

The tourism industry is greatly affected by environmental changes. Especially after the world went through the Covid pandemic era, people prefer doing healthy tourism. The daily workload, the increase in education and welfare have resulted in a shift in the trend of tourism choices. People are increasingly considering the fulfillment of work-life balance. This study is designed to examine the elements contained in the measurement of the restorative quality of destinations known as "Perceived destination restorative quality (PDRQ)”. PDRQ consists of four elements, namely being away, extent, fascination, and compatibility. These four elements will be tested for their effect on the overall restorative impact and visitor satisfaction. A quantitative study will be conducted in Indonesia with tourism objects in Jogjakarta and Central Java covering rural and urban areas. SEM statistical analysis tools will be used to test the validity and reliability of the data collected. This research will enrich the literature review in the field of health tourism and for managers will be useful to further broaden the perspective of offering tourism program that has more restorative impacts. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

mHealth technology has the potential to transform healthcare and realize the goal of precision medicine through systematic data collection and use. Meanwhile, mHealth applications developed during COVID-19 have had limited effect, as people have been reluctant to adopt them due to a lack of trust and willingness to share data. The aim of this empirical study is to provide insights into young people's use, trust, and willingness to share data through mHealth apps as future users of healthcare services. A survey comprising 484 Danish students was conducted. It focuses on mHealth app use, willingness to share data, and trust. The findings show that the trustworthiness of the technology and data requesting organization is important for establishing trust in mHealth apps. These insights indicate how young people can be motivated to trust mHealth apps, which can be used to develop future apps and exploit the untapped potential of the collected data. © 2023 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

Objective: This study sought to estimate the prevalence of COVID-19 infection among hospital staff according to various factors. Moreover, it sought to identify any factors that predicted a higher probability of infection in this population. Methods: This descriptive research was conducted among medical and non-medical personnel at Padang City Center Hospital, Indonesia (n=129). A chi-square test analysis was used to determine the degree of interrelationship between the studied variables, while an odds ratio (OR) test was performed to identify more potential categories. Results: Some 31.8% of respondents tested positive for COVID-19, although this finding was insignificant (p>0.05). In terms of the OR, the following probabilities were calculated: age (OR=1.0 [0.36–2.88]);medical history (OR=1.3 [0.23– 2.0]);higher education (OR=1.9 [0.2–17.6]);wearing a good mask (OR=0.7 [0.07–7.02]);good hand washing (OR=1.8 [0.46–7.07]);good physical distancing (OR=1.8 [0.46–7.07]);good personal protective equipment (OR=0.7 [0.07–7.02]);normal depression, anxiety, and stress (OR<1.0);and comorbidity (OR=1,2 [0.46-3.06]). Conclusion: No significant relationship was found between the studied factors and COVID-19 infection. However, there were more potential trends, especially for highly educated medical teams, not wearing a mask, smoking, engaging in strenuous activity, poor psychology, and comorbidity. These findings should prompt policymakers tasked with developing resources and interventions to pay more attention to the needs of medical and non-medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the availability of masks © 2023 Martini et al.;Licensee Lifescience Global

ABSTRACT

Objectives: To assess the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on self-rated stress levels among dentists who treated children during the outbreak and pediatric patient cooperation during dental treatments. Methods and materials: This cross-sectional study was assessed by enrolling an online questionnaire among dental practitioners treated children during April 2020. Result(s): Dentists with higher COVID-19-induced distress reported a lower degree of pediatric patient cooperation during dental treatments than dentists with lower reported stress (p value < 0.01). Additional factors negatively impacting patient cooperation were degree of professional practitioner seniority in pediatric dentistry, and perceived knowledge about the COVID-19 disease infectivity and feeling protective against viral transmission with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Also, stress levels among dentists treating children influenced medical decisions, such as the selected treatment approach influenced by COVID-19 considerations. Conclusion(s): The COVID-19 pandemic has adverse effects on clinicians and pediatric patients. Educational programs should be developed to advance dental staff.Copyright © 2021 The Authors

ABSTRACT

The assessment of future students' employability by the Institute of Higher Learning in collaboration with career centres is one of the most crucial steps in the educational industry for establishing an active and ascendable plan. Predictive analysis for this project is done using machine learning. This study investigates the Employability Signals of Undergraduates in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) criteria. The findings demonstrate that higher education was where the most accurate predictor of undergraduate students' employability was initially examined. The study's conclusions can be used to develop a roadmap that will make it simpler to use predictive analytics. The findings of this study may also facilitate the creation and application of predictive analytics, one of the possible approaches for analysing the education data gathered during the pre-covid period for this study. Systematic literature reviews should be trustworthy, repeatable, and valid when used in scientific investigations. As a result, the inquiry will reach a conclusion based on the evaluations found on pertinent and customized dates. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Covid -19 second wave was considered a disaster in India as it was more havoc than the first one. Shortness of breath in patients leads to more demand for oxygen and hospitalization. So, there was a challenge for the hospitals to combat this disease. In the covid second wave, moderate to severe cases were treated at three hospital levels (CHC, Sub-district, and District hospital). This disease was not limited to bigger cities but spread to rural and hilly areas. We conducted quantitative research among government hospitals in five hilly districts of Uttarakhand at three levels of hospitals. Data were collected from a close-ended questionnaire using a judgmental sampling technique and analysed with the help of tables and bar charts. Questions were set based on the pilot study. The challenges explored through this study were divided into five main headings and eleven sub-headings. The main headings were Manpower, Surge capacity, logistics, coordination, and management of non-covid patients. Sub-headings were a shortage of medical staff, shortage of paramedical staff, shortage of sweepers, shortage of ambulance drivers, shortage of ICU beds, shortage of oxygen beds, shortage of covid drugs (Remdesivir and Steroids), oxygen cylinders, PPE kits, difficulty in coordination with staff and difficulty in managing non- covid patients.Copyright © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications. ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has impacted life of high school students worldwide. As distant learning became prevalent in the pandemic, the form of social anxiety has been taken from contingent and noncontingent interaction to a new degree of internet interaction, which will be divided into traits of loneliness, self-doubt, and internet reliance. This paper presented a survey resulting from a range of 235 students either distant or in-person learning examining their anxiety level in the three degrees. In addition, results were separated in grade and gender to test a deeper understanding of various factors that affect the level of social anxiety. Two factorial MANOVA analyses were executed with the result indicating no interaction significance between gender∗class grade∗class but significance difference among the gender level under the three anxiety variables. This contradicts the concept of what we define pandemic and online learning as greatly depressing. As distant learning became prevalent, one cannot conclude this mode had influenced students to become more anxious compared to the in-person learning ones, but the result of the study supported the idea that a higher anxiety level was reached in the general high-school students. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Background: There is growing interest in parent-delivered interventions (PDI) for children with autism. Treatment fidelity has been associated with child outcomes in PDI but little is known about what impacts fidelity. One factor not previously examined is parents' resolution to the autism diagnosis which involves adjusting expectations about the child and sensitively responding to their cues, strengths and needs. Relatively little is known about resolution in the context of autism but there is evidence of an association between resolution and parent wellbeing. Method: The study adopted a mixed methods approach to examine whether there is an association between PDI fidelity and parent resolution to diagnosis, and whether resolution is associated with parent wellbeing. Parents of 31 preschool children diagnosed with autism who attended up to 12 Parent-delivered Early Start Denver Model (P-ESDM) coaching sessions participated in the study. A thematic analysis of parent interviews was also undertaken to identify themes raised by resolved and unresolved parents in interviews. Results: There was no difference in overall mean fidelity scores between resolved and unresolved parents. Those classified as resolved had lower depression scores and parenting stress scores than parents classified as unresolved. The qualitative analysis revealed that parents' perceptions of their child's progress and their hopes for the future appeared to distinguish resolved and unresolved parents. Conclusions: Findings suggest that parent wellbeing and child progress may predict resolution which was not related to parent treatment fidelity in this study. Parent wellbeing and resolution status should be assessed at entry to PDI.

ABSTRACT

Although home caregivers have been increasingly recognized as essential contributors to healthcare delivery, their perceived difficulties and requisites remain underexposed. With the emergence of telehealth adoption during Covid-19, caregivers are forced to be part of this technology. However, little attention has been given to their perceptions of telehealth technologies. This study explores the factors that impact caregivers' satisfaction with telehealth. We found that caregivers who thought that telehealth makes them use their time better are more likely to be satisfied with using it during Covid-19 (OR= 2.33 [1.89-15.35], P=0.006). In addition, the more caregivers thought telehealth helps them avoid problems of parking, driving, and delaying treatment, the more they were satisfied with their online visits. An increase in telehealth use due to Covid-19 made caregivers more satisfied with using it. Efforts to improve telehealth should not only focus on the design of the technology used and its usefulness. They, however, need to consider caregivers as part of the healthcare delivery process and adapt the technology to their needs. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Motivation is an inevitable factor in Second Language (L2) learning and teaching;moreover, various motivational strategies are involved in this factor. In the teaching-learning process, motivational strategies are paramount to robust the attainment of L2 learners and instructors. This study aims to investigate the use of motivational strategies given by the L2 instructors in technical classrooms (online) during the COVID-19 pandemic. A simple random sampling method is used to collect data amongst 159 L2 instructors in South India. The questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale was used to collect the responses from the informants. The collected data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, internal reliability, and correlation. The study results revealed that various motivational strategies are not carried out meritoriously in an online class. Therefore, notable changes have occurred in the use of strategies in the virtual classroom. Stakeholders could utilize the strategies effectively and support the instructors‟ community for balanced growth. © 2022 Sciedu Press. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

Changes in everyday activities, such as adapting to the new online format due to lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic and being far away from family and friends, greatly influenced the emotions and feelings of students and their parents. Assessing the emotions of students' parents at the higher education level is necessary since their emotional well-being has a direct impact on the emotional well-being of students throughout their distant learning experience. In this article, we held a quantitative study over 8 subsequent weeks from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in students and parents from the Mexican institution Tecnologico de Monterrey. Using a questionnaire from Inteligencia Audiencias (Intelligence Hearings), students and their parents could register their feelings and their valence from April 13th to July 20th, 2020. The results indicate that the most predominant emotions in both groups were very unpleasant and unpleasant in nature, being "worried"and "tired"the most common ones. The current study also provides some approaches for addressing the negative repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has created and exacerbated emotional, financial, and technical challenges for informal caregivers of older people. The aim of this study was to explore the caregiving situation and subjective burden of informal caregivers of older family members during COVID-19, and to investigate how a caregiving situation's characteristics predict the subjective burden of care in times of COVID-19. The study was conducted in April and May 2021 via an online access panel. The sample (n = 612) was determined using a screening test that enabled us to focus on a Slovenian population of informal caregivers aged 40+ caring for a person aged 65+ for at least four hours/week on average. Our findings reveal that the subjective burden of care was high among informal caregivers during COVID-19. Multiple regression analysis showed that the provision of activities of daily living, care duration, average hours of care per week, formal care status, and recipients' health problems related to dementia or other memory problems significantly predicted the subjective burden of caregivers. These findings call for better recognition of the role of informal caregivers. The time and effort devoted to informal care should be supported by legislation and social security.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the drawing characteristics of the house-tree-person drawing test (HTP) in junior high school students with depressive symptoms. METHODS: A total of 167 junior high school students were recruited and completed HTP and questionnaires. 12 drawing characteristics of HTP were extracted and compared to explore the potential drawing characteristics of depressive symptoms. RESULTS: Among 12 drawing characteristics, eight drawing characteristics appeared more frequently in the depressed group (CES-D ≥ 20) than in the non-depressed group (CES-D < 20), while one drawing characteristic appeared with a lower frequency. Further, controlling for the risk perception of COVID-19, seven drawing characteristics, not suggestive of movement, lacking details, blackening the paper, drawing in an only dark color, drawing a detailed crown, hands behind the back, and omitting expression, emerged as predictors of depressive symptoms (CES-D ≥ 20) in junior high school students. CONCLUSION: Seven drawing characteristics of HTP are significantly associated with depressive symptoms in junior high school students. HTP is insightful for early screening for junior high school students with depressive symptoms.
